Revive Our Ocean Collective

The Revive Our Ocean Collective is a select group of leading organizations that have already created effective coastal MPAs through the trust of local communities, proving that coastal protection works. The Collective is part of Revive Our Ocean to help others learn how to do the same.

To shape the Collective, Dynamic Planet interviewed managers of 30 successful coastal MPAs across 10 countries. Despite diverse contexts, the same ingredients for success emerged: strong local leadership, government support, innovative funding, and science-based management. These findings shaped Dynamic Planet’s criteria for selecting Collective members and the support it provides through shared assets, access, and alliances: visionary and relentless leadership; successful MPA as proof of concept; ambition to scale; strong technical expertise; trust with local communities; and enabling policy environment.

Initially active in Greece, Honduras, Indonesia, Mexico, Mozambique, Palau, the Philippines, Portugal, Türkiye, and the UK, the Revive Our Ocean Collective work hand-in-hand with coastal communities, policymakers, and businesses to accelerate marine conservation and ensure effective, lasting ocean protection.

The Collective brings together proven teams from various geographies with different models, so that they can learn from each other and also serve as guides in their countries for new communities interested in establishing MPAs. Together, we are demonstrating that conservation can finance its own future, led by the people who know their waters best.
